The Accident & Emergency (A&E) department at Margaret Lawrence University Teaching Hospital is your lifeline in a medical crisis. We are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and are fully equipped to handle all types of medical and surgical emergencies with efficiency, expertise, and empathy. We believe that timely and effective intervention saves lives.
Our Emergency Response Capabilities
Our A&E is staffed by a dedicated team of emergency physicians, critical care nurses, and support staff who are highly trained in trauma care, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), resuscitation, and crisis management. Our facility is designed to provide immediate care for a wide spectrum of urgent conditions, including:
- Major Trauma: Injuries from road traffic accidents, falls, and other critical incidents.
- Cardiac Emergencies: Including heart attacks, severe chest pain, and arrhythmias.
- Neurological Emergencies: Such as strokes, seizures, and severe headaches.

Our A&E is supported by our on-site, 24/7 radiology and laboratory services, allowing for rapid diagnostics to guide treatment. Our primary goal is to stabilize our patients, alleviate pain, and swiftly guide them to the appropriate next level of care, whether that be admission to a specialized hospital ward, transfer to a critical care unit, or discharge with a follow-up plan.
